Dustless Floor Sanding in Naperville, IL — skip the mess of traditional sanding

Dust is one of the biggest concerns homeowners have when refinishing hardwood floors — and for good reason. Traditional sanding methods can spread fine dust throughout a home, creating days or even weeks of cleanup.

At Tadas Wood Flooring, we use a genuine dustless hardwood floor sanding system designed to keep your home clean, controlled, and livable throughout the refinishing process.

We offer two levels of dust control — our standard dust-controlled sanding process and an optional 100% dustless sanding upgrade. The differences between these options are explained below.

Quick Summary: Dustless Floor Sanding

  • Dustless floor sanding captures sanding dust at the source, before it spreads through your home
  • We use professional sanding machines retrofitted with dust skirts and cyclone vacuum systems
  • Approximately 97–98% of sanding dust is captured during the sanding process
  • Professional dustless sanding equipment is used on all refinishing projects
  • The 100% dustless system is an optional upgrade that includes full containment, sealed areas, and detailed post-job cleaning
  • This upgraded system ensures your home is cleaner when we leave than when we arrive

Why Dust Is a Serious Concern During Floor Sanding

When homeowners think about sanding hardwood floors, dust is usually the first concern. Many people have heard stories of dust lingering in homes long after refinishing is complete.

REASON 1: The Mess

If sanding dust isn’t properly contained, fine particles can spread throughout your home — into cupboards, light fixtures, ceiling fans, curtains, walls, and HVAC ducting. Any area that isn’t sealed or protected can end up coated in dust.

Cleaning this type of mess after the fact can take days or even weeks.

REASON 2: Older Floor Finishes Can Be Hazardous

The first sanding pass removes the existing finish from your floors. In older homes, these finishes were often applied decades ago and may contain chemicals that are no longer considered safe.

Without proper dust containment, these particles can become airborne — meaning you, your family, and your pets could be breathing them in during the sanding process.

REASON 3: Dust Can Ruin the Final Finish

Dust doesn’t just affect your home — it affects the quality of your floors.

If dust is present during the coating process, it will eventually settle into the finish. While minor debris can be buffed out between coats, dust in the final coat leads to visible and tangible imperfections.

Nothing is more frustrating than investing in floor refinishing and ending up with bumps or debris sealed into the surface.

Dust has been a long-standing problem in the flooring industry.

Our Requirements for a Truly Dustless Sanding System

Since starting our company in 2002, we’ve tested and evaluated many dust containment systems — some effective, many not.

We knew our system had to be:

  • Portable and compact
  • Quiet and neighbor-friendly
  • Clean and environmentally responsible
  • Effective in all weather conditions

We specifically avoided large trailer-mounted systems that require generators, create noise, produce fumes, and force doors or windows to remain open during sanding.

The Dust Containment System We Use

After extensive testing, we selected a professional dust containment system using cyclone technology.

This system separates and captures dust efficiently before it becomes airborne.

All of our sanding machines — including belt sanders, edgers, planetary sanders, buffers, and detail tools — are retrofitted with dust skirts and cyclone attachments.

Unlike traditional cloth bag systems, which allow large amounts of dust to escape, our setup captures approximately 97–98% of sanding dust at the source.

When combined with:

  • Industrial plastic barriers sealing off work areas
  • Covered vents, cabinets, and adjacent rooms

We achieve a 98–99% dust-controlled environment during sanding.

This is the standard dustless system we use on all our hardwood floor refinishing projects.

If you would like to get that last 1-2% then the upgrade to our 100% dustless sanding system is an option you can choose.

Standard Dust-Control vs.
100% Dustless Sanding

All of our hardwood floor sanding projects use professional dustless sanding equipment designed to capture the majority of sanding dust at the source.

For many homeowners, this level of dust control is sufficient.

However, our 100% dustless sanding system is an optional upgrade that goes further.

Standard Dust-Control Sanding

  • Professional dustless sanding machines
  • Majority of sanding dust captured at the source
  • Full-room plastic containment not included
  • Detailed post-job surface cleaning not included

Optional 100% Dustless Sanding Upgrade

The 100% dustless system is an optional upgrade for homeowners who want full containment and no cleanup required after the job.

  • Dustless sanding equipment plus
  • Sealed work areas with industrial plastic
  • Covered vents, cabinets, and adjacent spaces
  • Detailed cleaning of all affected surfaces after completion
  • Guarantee that no dust cleanup is left for the homeowner

We’ll explain both options during your in-home evaluation and help you decide which level of dust control makes the most sense for your home, lifestyle, and expectations.

How We Achieve 100% Dustless Results

No mechanical sanding system can capture every single speck of dust — especially during hand sanding and detailed edge work.

That’s why our definition of “100% dustless” is simple:

Your home must be cleaner when we leave than when we arrive.

After sanding and finishing are complete, we remove the protective plastic and perform a detailed post-job cleaning of all affected surfaces, including:

  • Walls and baseboards
  • Countertops and cabinets
  • Light fixtures and switches
  • Windows, sills, and mantles
  • HVAC vents and registers

Your home must be cleaner when we leave than when we arrive

This removes both sanding dust and the built-up dust that was already present under furniture, rugs, appliances, and along edges.

Our 100% Dustless Guarantee

We are confident in our 100% dustless sanding upgrade, which is why we offer a risk-free guarantee:

You will not have to clean up dust after we finish.

If you’re not satisfied, we will return and clean again until you are.

No shortcuts. No excuses.

We’re happy to explain our dustless sanding system in more detail during an in-home evaluation, and you can read feedback from past clients who have experienced this process on our Photos page.
