REPAIRS... fixing the damaged areas

Depending on how well your floors have been taken care of – or if there has been renovations done by previous owners – your hardwood floors may have water damaged areas, gaps from relocated walls, pet and pot plant stains, holes, giant gaps, damaged and splintered boards, previous repairs done by an amateur or any other type of damage.

Repairing a pet stain in wood floor
Pet stains, deep scratches and damaged areas are common in many homes we work in throughout Naperville.
Finished repair invisible after sanding and refinishing
Most repairs we do will be completely invisible after sanding and finishing... like in the repaired area above.

If you have areas that need repairing, we have the experience and skill to do them for you. In pretty much all cases, we can source the same type of flooring and dimensions needed to restore the damaged areas.

We take great pride in our repair service.

We have invested in specialized tools that can remove damaged boards from the middle of a room without having to remove or damage the surrounding flooring. Once the repaired areas are completed, they will be almost impossible to see with an untrained eye and will blend in like they were always part of the original floor.

If you have an older Naperville area home, many times installing brand new wood in these areas will not obtain a perfect match. So we do our best to gather flooring from different eras so when we need to replace sections of flooring in these older homes, it will match your original wood as close as humanly possible.

A few things to be aware of with repairs...

The first and one of the biggest mistakes we see with repairs is different types of very similar wood being used. For example, if you have a white oak floor, you don’t want to use red oak for the repair – and vice versa. The difference in color and grain will make it stand out like a sore thumb and we guarantee you won’t be happy. If you’re not a professional, these two woods can be extremely hard to tell apart, which is why it’s such a common mistake.

Ugly repair from mismatched wood
Example of a bad repair because of mismatched wood. This is a common mistake of using White Oak instead of Red Oak.
Bad repair from lack of carpentry skills
Bad repair because of lack of carpentry skills and proper tools. No matter how well you sand this, it will always look bad.

The second mistake we commonly see is really badly patched repairs. It’s much easier to just cut a square hole around the damaged area and patch the same sized pieces in. The problem is... it looks horrible and very amature. A professional repair will stagger the boards (the professionals call it ‘lacing in’) to make it blend in with the original install. It’s a lot more work, but looks much better and will be pretty much invisible.

We go to great lengths to provide close matches to your original wood and make sure the repair is done to be as invisible as possible.

If you need a repair...

We are happy to come out and have a look at the damaged section of flooring in person so we can provide a price to repair it. This will be part of your in-home estimate. If you want any more information, please feel free to get in touch.
